For the Love of the Cave

Cappadocia was so impressive and inspiring that it deserves
a minimum of two entries about it.

Wouldn't you rather live here than wherever you're living now?

Seeing these intricate networks of cave dwellings really makes me wonder if
cave men still have the architectural edge on us.
   Architects, consider yourselves on notice!

Dear Architects...Some Thoughts on Form

I know that as architects we are often trained to love the curve
    and vilify the square.
And yet, for whatever reason, trips to White Sands, New Mexico,
    the mother-land of curvy landscapes,
have not become a mandatory part of our education.

So since we all know that nature figured out how to master form better than
we can ever hope to and without the help of Rhino, Maya,
and all of our other favorite modeling softwares...
I would recommend that you get in your car right this minute,
drive farther than you ever dreamed of,
find a way to clear border patrol
(I know it's still the USA, but that doesn't stop homeland security
from setting up checkpoints wherever they feel like),
and then revel in glory that is White Sands.

You and your architecture can thank me later.

Left my heart in Tokyo

For the next two months I will be posting from the fine city of Tokyo.

The land of advanced synthetic food displays

sponges that wear costumes

and inspired architectural mash-ups

so prepare yourselves for some impending talk about triangles

tonkatsu

and rainbow flowers

can't wait to show you around!

Insert Memory Card: Dubai in 20 hours

I just spent a deliriously saturated day in the surreal city of Dubai.

A city where the colonnades are embedded with glitter (seriously)
and all that is solid melts into gold...
 A city where the new
 trumps the old
and progress starts at the 124th floor
a city where (with a big enough wallet) you can manifest an Alpine village

or make it rain men (you know you've always wanted to)
A place where the mall and mosque become one in the same

and the end of the line is always in sight...

Filo-Sofia is going on the road!

    Hi Filosofers!

Starting in a week I will be posting from Berlin!

This means that there may be some impending talk about bears
    and robots

but in the meantime, please stay tuned for my farewell ode to Los Angeles
which will be happening throughout this coming week!
