We're On a Road to Nowhere (Literally)

On one of the rainiest days of the year,
Berlin decided to honor its annual tradition of turning over the streets
    to Germany's thriving rollerblader community
(Yes, I thought that phenomenon had ended in the late 90's too).
In addition to making a completely pointless traffic nightmare
(since no rollerblader would be caught out in such a down pour)
the city was also kind enough to remove any helpful traffic sign
for those of us foolish enough to have picked the wrong form
    of transportation for the day.

And after spending nearly 3 hours to travel less than 10 miles,
the only people who could add a little upbeat perspective to my plight
were, of course, Michael and Diana.
So please enjoy them as they ease on down the road with a lot more
   grace than I did!

I Want You Back: Remembering MJ

Sometimes there are just no words...
But thankfully in their place so many images, songs, and dances remain.
So here are some favorites.

 Miss you, MJ!

A-B-C easy as 1-2-3

I just spent a titillating morning at the Ausländerbehörde (Foreigner's Office)
and was absolutely mesmerized and humbled by their unbelievably
    complex numbering system.

This is the waiting room and number board.

    My number is 784.

I know it might look like I missed my turn,
but my number actually wasn't called yet.
    (Obviously)
    Nope, still not yet.

    Some things, I've learned,
are really far beyond my limited comprehension skills.

    On that note,
let's take a break and enjoy something that everyone (except
    for the Ausländerbehörde) can understand.
(No offense, of course. I'd still like to get my visa.)

Upside Down and Inside Out

Right in the heart of Berlin at Postdamer Platz's Sony Center
you can find a real life section cut through a preserved Berlinese interior.

Channeling the essence of Gordon Matta-Clark, this inverted interior offers
an array of intricate design details including this impressively ornate
     mirror and wall relief.

While what makes this slice through the past so compelling and disorienting
has a fair amount to do with its juxtaposition against its more contemporary
architectural neighbors, the most effective aspect of this peculiar
preservation move is the fact that you can be outside and inside
    simultaneously.

So in honor of this wonderfully inverted architectural specimen,
let's all take a minute to enjoy Diana Ross singing "Upside Down"
with Michael Jackson at the LA Forum.
